The agreement between you and Theioptera. Written to be read: what you're agreeing to, what your work stays worth, what Lio can and can't be trusted with, and what we don't promise.
Theioptera is a research guide. It helps you take a question you care about and turn it into a structured path you can actually follow.
Your work stays yours — we claim no ownership of your research, and we don't train models on it. Lio is a tool that can be wrong, and you should check it. There's a free tier, and paid plans you can cancel anytime.
The details are below, in plain language. Where something isn't settled yet, it says so instead of being left out.
By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. You need to be old enough to enter a contract where you live.
You're responsible for what happens on your account and for keeping your sign-in secure. Accounts are keyed to your email address, so a Google and a GitHub login for the same address are the same account.
You can close your account at any time from your profile page. Doing so deletes your content permanently and immediately — that's described in full in the Privacy Policy.
This is the most important clause on this page, so it isn't buried at the bottom.
Lio can be wrong. It can be confidently wrong. It can misread a paper, propose an analysis that doesn't fit your question, cite something that doesn't say what it appears to say, or be out of date. It is a tool for thinking, not a source of truth, and the judgment stays yours.
Theioptera does not provide medical, clinical, legal, or professional scientific advice. Before you act on anything — especially a study design, a statistical choice, or anything touching human or animal subjects — verify it against primary sources and people qualified to review it.
If Lio proposes a next step and you follow it, that is your research decision, not our recommendation.
You keep full ownership of everything you create here: your projects, questions, notes, uploaded materials, results and writing. We claim no rights in them and no share of what they lead to — a paper, a thesis, a grant, a company.
You grant us only the permission needed to run the service: to store your content, and to send the relevant parts to the AI providers listed on our Sub-processors page so Lio can answer you. Nothing beyond that.
We do not train models on your content, ours or anyone else's. That's a commitment in the Privacy Policy, not just here.
The Theioptera software, brand, and design remain ours.
There's a free tier, and paid plans — Founding Member at $9/month and Pro at $14/month — billed through Gumroad. The Founding Member rate is an early-supporter price that stays with you as the public price rises. What each plan includes is on the pricing page, which is the single place we keep that current.
Cancel anytime from your Gumroad dashboard. Access continues to the end of the period you've paid for, and we don't pro-rate a partial month.
If you downgrade, you keep everything — your projects and materials stay exactly where they are, and usage simply returns to free-tier limits. We never delete your work because you stopped paying.
If a payment goes through and your account doesn't upgrade, email us and we'll fix it by hand. That's a bug on our side, not a support ticket you should have to argue.
Don't use Theioptera to break the law, to harm people, to reach another user's data, or to get the AI to produce genuinely dangerous instructions — synthesis routes for weapons or agents of mass harm being the obvious case.
Don't try to overwhelm the service, resell access, or scrape it. Automated access is fine when it's yours and it's reasonable.
We may suspend an account that abuses the service. Where the situation allows it, you'll get a warning and a chance to export your data first.
Theioptera is early software, run by a very small team. Things will break. Features will change, and occasionally one will be removed. We'll tell you when something material changes rather than letting you discover it.
The service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee uptime, that Lio's output is accurate, or that a feature will still exist next month.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the service — including research decisions made on Lio's suggestions. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law, and if you're a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
Export your work if it matters to you. You can download everything on your account, whenever you like, without asking us — and we'd rather you did than assume we'll always be here.
Theioptera is built and operated from Germany by Yara Ismail, as an individual rather than a company — so this agreement is between you and Yara Ismail, and the full details are on our Impressum. These terms are governed by German law, and German courts have jurisdiction.
If you're a consumer in the EU, this doesn't take away the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in — you keep those rights wherever you are.
Payments are handled by Gumroad, which acts as the merchant of record: Gumroad is the seller in the transaction and handles sales tax and VAT. Your payment contract for a subscription is therefore with Gumroad, and their terms apply to the transaction itself.
We may update these terms as the product changes; the date above reflects the latest version, and material changes will be announced rather than made quietly. Continuing to use Theioptera means you accept the updated terms.
